As one of the largest and most vibrant among British cities, Manchester much logically has many different places. There are colourful multi-cultural areas, working-class districts, industrialized territories and even small villages that were incorporated within Greater Manchester over the years. But when we are talking about the best place in Manchester to live in, there is very little doubt that you are going to find all that you are looking for (and then some more) namely in the area of Moss Side.
Moss Side – where and how much?
You will find Moss Side to be an inner-city district of Manchester, along with an electoral ward. It is located at a comfortable distance from the very heart of the city – some 3.1 kilometers to the south of the centre. The district that form Moss Side’s borders are as follows: Hulme to the north, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Rusholme and Fallowfield to the east, Whalley Range to the south, and Old Trafford to the west. As you can see, if you choose to settle down in Moss Side, you will be close to many of the key areas of the city. According to the last census, carried out in 2011, there are 18 902 people currently living in the district, which means that it is not as over-populated as other major places across the metropolis, which is of course something of great importance when you are ranking the comfort of a place.
Culture and amenities
In addition to the recent regeneration and redevelopment of the area, there are several other factors that make Moss Side stand out. The area is very well known for its rather strong community spirit, which is demonstrated via a range of local organizations. The Millennium Powerhouse, a music, fitness and dance studio under one roof is the leading centre attracting youths age 8-25 in the area.
For centuries, Moss Side has been known for its traditions in brewing. Currently owned by Heineken, the Royal Brewery was established originally in 1875. It has been praised for the quality of the water that is used in the process of making ale, which makes the one made at the Royal Brewery stand out with its “brightness, purity and flavour”. Another famous brewery here, even older than the one we have been talking about above is the Hydes Brewery which was opened originally in 1861.
Moss Side is home to campuses of the University of Manchester, Manchester Royal Infirmary, and, situated further north, Manchester Metropolitan University. This contributes to the unique atmosphere in the district, and the general low age of the people living in Moss Side. Additionally, the Manchester Metropolitan University is working on plans of the construction of a new campus right in Moss Side that would cost 120 million pounds and would further contribute to the rejuvenation and improvement of the district.
Do you feel convinced? Well, the question is do you feel convinced enough to start looking for moving companies for your upcoming relocation to Moss Side.
