Sir Richard Branson, the eccentric billionaire who is known to be the founder and executive director of the Virgin Group Ltd. has made the news with yet another controversial yet pretty brave business decision. The employees of his business conglomerate the Virgin Group will have the right to take as much holiday leave each year as they please. According to Bronson, who among other things is a keen traveler and explorer, this is a step forward to building the company of the future. The unlimited holiday leave, he hopes, will increase the morale of his employees and boost their creativity.
By removing his company’s holiday policy, Branson thinks, Virgin Group will take a step forward in its development and yet again is going to be ahead of the competition. The whole strategy was described in detail by Branson himself on the online blog of his company. According to the boss, employees will not have to ask for approval in advance to their holiday plans. /They will be able to leave whenever the please, but instead of chaos and a drop in the productivity and efficiency of the work of the company, as the most pessimistic observers think, this would lead to just the contrary.
Branson explains that each employee can decide when and how much holiday he or she is going to take – it may be a couple of hours, several days, a week or a month. But the employee in question is going to do that only when he or she is absolutely certain that the team they are assigned on is up to date with all the current projects and their absence will not lead to undesirable consequences for the productivity of the whole team and the end results of their work. In short no strict holiday policy will lead to a boost in the team spirit and work at the Virgin Group.
Richard Branson is known for taking such seemingly unorthodox business decisions in the past too. The Virgin Group is one of the largest conglomerates operating in London today, and this means it is also one of the largest companies in the world too. You can be one hundred percent certain that any such a drastic change in their corporate policy will cause a serious outcry in all other London companies. And if the strategy proves to be successful, they are going to employ it too. Despite the many skeptics, far more people are going to be surprised if the next business decision made by Richard Branson proves to be unsuccessful – after all, he has become of the wealthiest people in the world, a real life business guru namely because he was willing to take risks.
It seems like the business model in London will change in the recent future. If you are willing to become a part of the trend, it might be a good idea to start looking for a man and van company and doing other arrangements for your move in the capital.
